[/u](( Courts ))
How they work:
Courts are made up by a group of species that unite under the same element. Each court has a different society, culture and morals. While their appearances are different, they are all the same in the fact that they are “fey”. Fey is a soft term for Fairy. However, Fey are not exactly Fairies in the sense that wings are optional -- in this role-play Fey are defined by the use of their magic and abilities.
Note: Just because the Courts have a ‘setting’ for how the creature should be, you can make the personality type different -- such as a Light Fey having impure thoughts, just make that it fit’s the society’s guidelines. (The Light Fey hides these thoughts by cutting herself, etc.)
Fey who do not pick a court, must be of origin of one. These fey are called Solitary Fey, and have no alliance with any court. Their powers can adapt since their is no kinship with their court.
The Light Court:
People in the light society are often thought of being happy, calm and have an overall sense of optimism. Yet, they are still plagued by the fear of war, making it well known that they will strive for peace and do whatever they can to maintain their happy go lucky society. Those in control of the Light society are complex creatures, making sure to shroud their civilization in a protective bubble. This society has a sense of kinship, and they group together often; they are not isolated.
Their power is fullest in the day, although they can rely on any source of light, even vague resources like stars, candles and the moonlight. Most of the creatures are fair skinned, fair eyed, with fair hair. In writings they are depicted as being angelic.
The Dark Court:
They are the complete opposite of the Light Court. Most of the dark court is made up of Fey who had sacrificed their powers or were born to the dark. They are very selfish creatures and seek to inflict pain or despair on others, usually out of revenge or for simple enjoyment. While they do not depend on others very often; they are loyal to their kind and to their queen. Loyalty does not ensure trust or liking, but it’s enough to keep the court together.
Their powers are fullest at night, when the moon is full and when any shadows are present.
The Earth Court:
The Earth Court often call themselves druids out of folklore. However, they are simply attuned with mother nature. Their powers are very selfless in the fact that they have healing powers, can nourish any withering plant, work with stone, and can understand animals. Earth Fey are unique, being able to transform into any animals as they please. They mostly dwell in a one-season area of woods, where it is always spring, with little frost. However, when evil comes to the Earth Court and destroy their habitat, they are forced to migrate, for Earth Fey die in winter, such as plants do. They are very labored out of all the Feys, always working to build, heal and offer assistance.
The Fire Court:
Feisty and quick tempered, the Fire Court Fey are notorious for their compulsiveness and recklessness. While typically outgoing and fun in nature, they are prone to acting without thinking and can lose friends as quickly as they make them. They are rumored to have powers relating to lust and are prone to being very sexual creatures. Fire Fey must live where it is warm and cannot survive in cold climates; you cannot burn a fire fey, and they are impervious to heat.
Their powers are fullest in warm, dry climates and can also draw on the power of flames from items such as bonfires, candles, and matches.
The Water Court:
The Fey of the Water Court are known to be serene and calm. They tend to live deep under calm waters or within caverns that hold within them deep reservoirs of clean water. Water Fey possess the ability to change between legs to walk on land and mermaid-like tails to swim in water. For the most part, they tend to stay out of fights and wars and keep to themselves beneath the sea. While they tend to prefer warmer waters, the Water Fae can live deep beneath an icy surface and wait out the long winters in their underwater cities.
Their powers are greatest wherever water is present. Oceans, springs, and rainy days are all preferable for a water fey, though they may also draw on the water from clouds in the sky.
The Wind Court:
As their element would imply, Wind fey are flighty creatures that tend to migrate wherever the wind takes them. It is said to be in a relationship with a wind fey is asking for heartbreak, for they are prone to leaving and changing their minds at a moment’s notice even in matters of love. Not mean spirited or prone to having evil intent, they do not act out of malice. Many fey, even others of their own kind, may find them frustrating to deal with thanks to their instability and lack of commitment.
The Wind Fey’s powers are most pronounced on windy days. Even small gusts of breeze can give the wind fey a slight boost of power.
The Ice Court:
Ice Fey are considered to be cold and ruthless by many of their counterparts. They never wear their hearts on their sleeve, preferring to keep their emotions in check and guarded as necessary. Tactics and logic will always come first and foremost in terms of values for these Fey. They are prone to starting fights with their sharp tongues and seemingly uncaring attitudes. Freezing temperatures are where these Fey thrive, the colder the better.
The powers of the Ice Fey are greatest wherever frost is present. However, because their body temperature is always cold, it is possible for them to freeze the water in the air so that their powers are consistently available for their use.
The Death Fey:
(( applications for death fey are limited ))
The Death Fey are not alive. There is a legend, practiced by every Fey in each society: to protect a Fey’s soul they must have a proper burial ritual to ascend to ‘Heaven’. The body must be burned, and eyes closed with two stones placed over the eye sockets. If the funeral pyre ritual is not practiced, Death Fey will come to the body and claim their soul, trapping it in the underworld. Not every soul that is taken becomes a Death Fey, most of the souls are lost. It is also said that those who die in their beds and in their homes are safe.
Death Fey are described as phantoms, grim reapers and as plagues. Death Fey can either be born dead or were once another type of fey that has lost its "soul" when fey loses their soul or ability to live, they will often fall to the Death Fey state. Death Fey are like grim reapers. They collect the souls of dead Fey and offer a place to live for fey who have lost their purpose in life. Death fey are considered hollow and empty and they are mostly depressed and miserable. They also cannot die as easily as other fey. Only other Death Fey can kill them for they have "no soul".
Since Death Fey are often described as ghosts, they can only be seen by other Fey who are in touch with the supernatural, or have a strong sense of power. Death Fey can only be seen by others if they choose to be seen, otherwise they are a simple gust of cold air. Since Death Fey are often once living, their powers are the opposite of what they were when alive. For example, if a Death Fey had used Ice as ability; their new powers would be Fire.
Death Fey come with their own set of powers. The ability to be invisible, walk through solid objects, and can even possess someone with a weak mind. The Death Fey are only attracted to souls, and will manipulate anyone to have that soul in possession. Death Fey usually keep their appearance of their body, for that is all they know, but some are able to take the appearance of someone that was dear to them, or someone who was alive a century ago. Their wings can be made of feathers, wing bats, or hold the essence of a Fey, but most of the Death Fey forget they even have them.[/blockquote]
