Still, despite trying, there was no shutting it off completely, and like an ambiance it was still there. Deceit was lucky it hadn't backlashed (or had it?).
He pulled, tugged, but the water held fast around his wrist, no matter how much he dug his heels into the dirt and there was more coming. More coming and it had his ankle, had his other wrist before he could reach the knife in his belt and for a moment even had his throat before that one was gone and she cried out.
Fingers, fingers on the hands of the dead filthy rotting corpses and his eyes were wide and his vision went black and he was not Deceit.
How the hell had he gotten here? Oh god why couldn't he move and his expression was different, the flow of power ebbing nearly nonexistent and hismotherwastryingtokillhim and he screamed.

It was a constant push and pull. Eleri felt driven to the edge of madness by the pain, the visions that floated in front of her. The lush grass grew wet and gave beneath her feet as she struggled to stay up. Her powers fluxuated. She was tired, scared, her mind feeling like it had been torn apart from the inside out. Blood coated her hands, streaked her soft pink hair as fingers grasped at it. The water swelled again, the waters from the falls increases and then dying back to a normal flow. She was crying, body wracked by sobs.
Then she heard his own scream. It pierced her and suddenly everything just stopped as she stared at him, water falling away, running back into the lake. The sky had darkened to a soft twilight, no other noise breaking the silence save for that of the two Fey. Eleri watched, trying to focus her vision in as she gritted her teeth.
"Who are you? Why did you attack me?!" She shouted, anger and confusion filling her teal eyes, burning bright as fingers tightened into fists in the grass. Pulses of power, they tore through her as she once more worked herself back up onto her feet, naked, pale...

"Holy fuck," was a shaky breath as the vision passed as suddenly as it had come, and Ashton fell backward when the water released him, eyes wide as he stared forward. The silence ringing in his ears rose and fell in deafening crescendos, whispers on the edges of his thoughts like ghosts of his past and he breathed raggedly and took in what was around him.
Water. He was drenched in it, his clothes heavy and weighing him down. The Fey before him was a wreck, and he could only assume it was because of him (his power, it made sense). Her words backed up this theory, but like many things he didn't remember. Blood. He was bleeding, but it was nothing new to come to with some new injury, and he let her accusation sink in as he tried to even out his breath and the pounding of his pulse (because goddamn was it making his head hurt even worse).
In turn, he could only think of one thing to answer her with.
"Why the hell are you naked?"

Eleri's breath was ragged, shaking her entire body with every intake she took. Even with an illusion she found it hard to believe that she would feel so drained, but then again after what she saw she didn't know what she could and could not believe anymore. The other had made her see that? Just what Fey could do such a thing to create nightmares for others? She was livid, but cautious, and very, very scared. Eleri's magic felt like it was at its controlled limit.
Had he been trying to force her magic? Or had he thought her weaker. His sudden facade of ignorance confused the Water Fey as she watched, trembling, waiting for a reply.
All she was given was a question to her own state. The girl balked, a blush running along her cheeks as she looked down at her own form. Her fins now gone, her dry clothes all on the other side of the lake. "Are you trying to be funny! You attack me and all you can do is wonder why I am naked? I'm a Water Fey you fool! You saw me swimming earlier! Now answer my questions or you'll be answering to the Water Courts. Why did you attack me?"

She was frustrating, and Ashton found her nudity distracting, putting his blind eye towards her as one wing lifted, almost as if to shield his sight from it further. Her screeching was making his headache worse still, and he didn't really care for the way she seemed to boast her affiliation like it was something so special.
"Put some goddamn clothes on," was the answer he gave this time, fingertips moving down the length of his arm and smearing the blood on it, because he could focus on that. The pain felt real, at least.
His demeanor itself was different, because he was not Deceit, not as cruel a thing but certainly no saner.
"And how the hell d'you expect me to answer a question I don't know the answer to?" he snapped, maybe it would shut her up, because god his head hurt, the whispers like razorblades and maybe if she shut up so would they.

The water fey was ready to drown the other as he told her to put clothes on, acting as if he'd not been the cause for anything that had happened. She gave a soft hiss at him, "I think you should be apologizing and not acting like some shy virgin." The fey replied, anger still burning hot within her as she turned towards the water, a flick of the wrist sending a shivering wave across the water towards the waterfall and the cave behind it where her clothes had been stashed away. It took only a moment but soon the waters had drawn her now soaking dress to the shore where she stood. A normally easy task was draining though, her energy nearly exhausted as she drew the wringed it out and slipped it on over her form before turning her attention back to the half blind Fey.
"Don't know the answer..." She trailed off before she moved in towards the other. Dangerous considering what had happened, but after being turned inside out and feeling so raw from fear the usually sweet girl had little patience. "Don't know the answer? How daft do you think I am to believe that it wasn't you who just attacked me. I was trying to heal you and you...you sent that weird illusion!"
Her voice grew in volume as she got in closer. She wanted to hurt him for what he'd done, make him feel what she'd felt. "Just who are you? Where are you from?"

Apologizing? How idiotic, Ashton thought, that he should apologize for something he couldn't remember doing. Whatever that was, though apparently he'd attacked her, that much was certain.
And she'd fought back, obviously, if the blood on his fingers and the water that soaked his hair and wings and clothes was any indication.
But she was coming closer, and he scurried to his feet, stepping back away from her as she did and a thread of panic spiraled up and settled itself in his brain.
"Stay the FUCK away from me!" was sudden, wild as the look in his eyes like a wary animal. His fingers were on the knife in his belt, and it was with a slightly shaky hand that he pointed it at her as if it would keep her back.
"Not everybody's PERFECT," the word like a disease. Paranoia crept back into his thoughts. How did he know she hadn't attacked him first? "How do I know you're not LYING, everybody fuckin' LIES!"

Eleri stepped back from the other as he seemed to panic, his shout startling as she drew back. The pulled knife made her gaze narrow as she took up a more defensive stance in case he was attempting to attack again. She brought her hands up to guard herself, watching cautiously as she stepped closer to the water.
"No body is perfect, but I'm not asking for perfection...I'm asking who you are and where do you come from?" She repeated, her voice strained, tension pulling her muscles tight, ready to run or fight. "What's your name? What kingdom are you from? Tell me!" She ran her own hand down her arm, blood drying on her hands now as she watched the blade.
"What reason would I have to lie to you about being attacked?" Eleri asked, her confusion only growing with his words. Just who was this person, and why was he acting so differently than before? It was frightening to the young Fey to be thrown off feeling like she didn't know what to think. "I had been trying to help you, to heal your wounds and you grabbed me and began that awful illusion."

Miserable thing isn't she...
The hand on the knife tightened its grip, and Ashton gestured with it, but not at her. "You stay out of this," he hissed, still backing away from her though she was no longer advancing. The weapon had done its job then, in his mind, and his gaze turned back to her again. Maybe he could get out of this.
"Are you callin' me crazy?" he said, could hear the uproarious laughter echo in the back of his mind because he knew perfectly well that he was far from sane (as well as you can know it when you are crazy, at least). NonoNO it didn't add up, though, and it hurt his head to think about it, the hand not on the knife rubbing at the bridge of his nose.
"I don't gotta answer a damn thing!" he responded, still retreating, because he had to get away (before he lost it).

"What are you--" Eleri's question was cut off by the wave of the knife. She looked around seeing no other threat in this place. "Who are you talking to?" The Divine tried to step towards him, but she stopped herself. There was a pressure, a feeling in her stomach that something else was happening. Carefully she moved back towards the pond until she could feel her heels touch the edge of the bank.
"I am not calling you crazy. I just wish for an explanation of some sorts. All I had been doing was trying to heal you. You're wounded. I meant you no harm." Eleri argued. She had no weapon, already she knew that limits were being pushed, and even as she treaded with caution the situation was unpredictable.
Holding up her hands to show she was unarmed and meant not harm she examined the other from afar. "Tell me your name, please. If something is wrong I can try and help you. Just please put the knife down. You'll hurt yourself."

Questions, so many questions and she wouldn't just be quiet and it was so grating on Ashtons' nerves. Why wouldn't she just let him go?
She's against you, a LIAR
"I said you shut the fuck up!" he snapped, a vision of black and red in the corner of his eye that no matter how he turned his head he could never keep up with and the laughter followed, moving from one ear to the next and settling between them.
She wanted him to put away his weapon, for fear that he might hurt himself, and he realized the laughter this time was his own and not quite in his head (though that voice laughed with him still). "I don't need your help," he hissed as the laughter abruptly stopped and he purposefully pressed the side of his thumb to the edge of the blade, steps backward slow but relatively steady.

Eleri kept backing up now. No, there was no way to get the other to calm down it seemed. A lost cause that seemed brought on by some form of hysteria, though the healer and Divine could not say what sickness plagued him. She grew quiet, lips pulled tight in a frown as she continued to hold her hands up. The water lapped around her feet, almost a reassuring touch if it had not been for the sinking feeling in the pit of her stomach.
"Fine, you don't need my help then...however, if you are planning on hurting others I cannot let you do that." What if he did find someone else to trick? To show those nightmares to? His laughter sent a cold chill down her spine as she moved further back into the water, feeling its movements as she took a deep breath and steeled herself to her spot in case this had to become a fight.
"That magic of yours is dangerous. You could seriously hurt someone with that. Is that what you want here? To cause harm to someone?" Her words were not to provoke or taunt, but rather to try to find some chink in the armor, some way to get the other to stop this insanity.

She was holding steady, even backing away from him and to an extent it eased his panic, though he wasn't going to stay by any means. STILL she was talking, still wouldn't shut up and he wondered if it made her feel better, feel normal.
Something cynical broke through and he sneered at her, eyes narrow as he spat out, "And what are you gonna do about it?"
The question, however, was rhetorical, because once he'd backed far enough away, he simply turned and started walking away. He didn't care what her answer would be, didn't want to be around her noise and felt drained, tired, pain throbbing in his head and the tight pull of drying blood.
If she tried to follow (he goddamn well hoped she wouldn't)...

Eleri remained where she was when he turned and began to leave. His words left her feeling cold, angry, but scared. She was tired, her mind worn down to its rawest state, her body feeling abused...she didn't want to risk the illusions again. She was sure that if she had to go through that again she would break. The water stirred around her in her own aggitation.
"I may not be able to do anything now...but you cannot put people through that sort of hell and be ignored for long. No court would put up with that. These territories are not made to keep tormentors safe." Her words lacked viciousness, but were heavy with a serious tone as the waters calmed slowly. Teal eyes watched him walk away as she took a long, deep breath in.
"Whoever you are...you are a monster..." The Divine's fingers clutched at her dress as she finally stepped back up onto the solid earth, "And I will remember you."
