(( General Information ))
Character Name: Ainde Su'jat (Aynd Soo-jatt) Age: 185 Identified Court: Water Court Fey Blood: Water and Ice Fey in equal parts Appearance: Ainde stands at 5'9, with long, fine black hair bound in a leather thong. His eyes consist of two concentric rings; the inner pale blue, and the outer ultramarine. His pupils are almost unusually large, and his dark, long eyelashes sweep through the air, the subject of many a jealous female's attention. His build is slender, though not without muscle. Both ears are pierced with several silver pieces of ornamentation through the outer ridge of cartilage, with fine chains linking those on his left ear. His torso, legs, and arms all bear numerous scars as a result of run-ins with temperamental and/or wounded sea life. Inner Court: None Level: Level 1 Powers: Ainde unconsciously generates a sub-zero cloud of vapor around him, which is invisible except in a humid area. When concentrated by an effort of will, this vapor can be directed specifically, generating a thin layer of frost over a surface. It can also be suppressed, though it takes a conscious and ongoing application of his willpower to do so. In hot areas, the vapor is automatically expressed as a thick and billowing mist, which assists in shielding Ainde from the effects of the temperature, though it can do little else in this form. Magical Knowledge: In accordance with his mother's wishes, Ainde was taught to weave ice from a young age, raising him to be an enchanter-artisan. However talented at weaving ice into new forms, upon his mother's death, he forswore the practice of ice weaving as a daily practice, calling it "nothing more than selfishness that caters to the higher castes", and setting himself to follow his father's path, weaving water, to heal the minds and bodies of those who needed it, brewing potions and salves from the sea's bounty... though this has left him with more than his share of patients, both in the fae community and in the ocean itself. In secret, when he has both the time and the energy, he still practices his weaving of ice, tinkering with various enchantments to craft new and wondrous things. After all, everyone has their vices.
(( Personality ))
Though Ainde may come off as being anywhere from inflexible to downright cold, those who get to know him eventually find out that while these things are true, they stem from an inner inability to cope with the loss of his mother at a young age, and that they're the manifestation of his desire to protect all life. Deep down, Ainde is a passionate, kind man, willing to sacrifice any degree of his personal comfort or happiness to bring joy to another soul. He despises the war, not because of the death it brings, but because of the suffering it imparts, forcing innocents to live in fear of one another. He is understanding of the bigger picture, and even the need for violence, but he does so only as a last resort, if something he loves is directly threatened. Though Ainde leans towards being sharply analytical and unflinchingly hard, it is simply a manifestation of his ego, his fear of being dependent on something besides himself and the long-set trauma of a childhood full of losing the things he dared care about. Though he has trouble allowing himself to forge personal connections, especially due to his tendency to cut away developing relationships that he decides will lead to pain, pry too much into his personal life, or demand too much from him emotionally, once he has allowed himself to fully open up to someone, he is loyal to a fault, elevating the worth of his friends above his own.
Ainde is fond of foods with a high degree of spiciness to them, and he has a well-developed palette of wines, beer, and spirits, though he tends to only partake of the first two on a regular basis (and even then, only one glass, and only as an aid to digestion). He prides himself on having varied musical tastes (or, at the least, a fair deal of patience), though he tends to favor soft, ambient sounds that can be repetitive but non-intrusive for long periods of time.
Ainde has multiple complexes, ranging from Martyr to Knight, and this directly steers his romantic interests. Long caught in a pattern of his own design and vices, Ainde has traveled from damaged person to damaged person, attempting to heal the wounds in their hearts left by their pasts, and then, finding himself getting personally attached to someone, becomes caught between guilt and fear. From there, it is only a period of time before Ainde excises himself from the situation, believing it benefits both of them more than staying and possibly falling in love. He still hopes to find it, one day, though he understands that he would have to undergo a number of serious changes before he could properly love another living being in a healthy way.
His birth-sign is The Balance, his favorite colour is red, and he sees himself as a bit player in the universe, though this suits him just fine.
(( History )) Ainde was born as the unfortunate lovechild of an Ice Fae mother and a Water Fae father. He grew up on the outskirts of a village outside of Aqua Porta, becoming an avid fisherman alongside his father during his youth, as well as being trained as village healer. During his teenage years, his mother started to entreat to him her family arts, trying to give him the tools to reach above the station fate, and his father, had chosen for him. He was quickly endeared to the practice of artisanal artifice, drawn in by the challenges of balancing form and function. However, the loss of his mother during the fissure became the source of a paradigmal shift in Ainde's personality. As he became more withdrawn, eventually the slow passage of time started to eat at Ainde's heart. Seeing the rebirth of his beloved wife's spirit in his son, his father sent him to Aqua Porta, as a place to ply his crafts and perhaps find his own way of dealing with the scars upon his heart whilst he did so.
Twenty years later, Ainde, having mended innumerable wounds, soothed a thousand unbearable aches, and become intimately knowledgeable of every form of healing and mental augmentation that he could master, set out from Aqua Porta onto the road, to find himself and the answers that the city's flowing tendrils could not bring to him. For the past sixty years, Ainde has traveled the coastlines and byways of his home country and beyond, lending his skills where needed, focusing on mastering his crafts and absorbing new theory, and trying to stem the dark roots of misery that have choked his heart and twisted his destiny for so long.
