(( General Information ))
Character Name: Lang Ziu Na Age: 540 (5 months older than Vaet, though.) Identified Court: Fire Court Fey Blood: Full-blooded Fire Fey Appearance: Despite his position, Lang does not have an imposing figure, but it is, by no means, diminutive either. He is of average height for his age, but hardly slight. Rather, he’s sturdily built, muscular, with a relatively tan complexion. His hair falls to mid-back, held up with a large red bandanna. Because of the nature of his powers, Lang tends to wear comfortably-fitting, light material (not unlike tribal wear) in reds, golds, and blacks. His wings are a bright red and orange feathered set, and constantly burning at the edges, similar to a phoenix’s.
Even though he is a Fire fey, there is a burn scar in the middle of his back, between his shoulder blades (and between the roots of his wings). This scar was placed there by Vaet Quo, as a sign of their brotherhood, to match the one he had unintentionally given Vaet in their youth. Inner Court: Ruler of the Fire Court Level: Level Two Powers: Lang is able to control the heat around his body. This temperature can extend from just beyond his skin, to a range that is s few meters in diameter. What this means is that he can melt and set fire to almost anything within his vicinity, as well as keep blazes alight, being able to reach temperatures hotter than is found in the natural world. The pitfall to this, however, is the lack of control. He cannot disperse the fire at his will. His powers are also easily swayed by his feelings – should he lose his temper, it can be (and has been) extremely destructive to those around him.
When using his powers, Lang’s eyes turn entirely black, and the skin around them also blackens, as if being singed. They revert to normal when he stops, however. In addition, his powers make it so that Lang’s body temperature is always very warm – not searing, but like a normal with a high fever.
When paired with Vaet, Lang can exacerbate both of their powers, allowing Vaet to control an incredible flame to his will. To give another the control of your powers is a deathly dangerous thing, and only those with close bonds allow this to happen. Should someone control Vaet, or should Vaet himself choose so, this facet can be used against Lang. Magical Knowledge: Lang received a magical education as an adolescent, but most of his expertise relies in combat rather than the honing of weaving skills. He can use fire weaving, but only to an average level.
(( Personality ))
Indicative of the element he identifies with, Lang is a passionate individual. His country, his people, his friends, and his honor (in that order) rank amongst the things of most importance in his life. He is a proud, strong-willed man, occasionally leaning towards haughtiness and mischievousness, and while his greatest strength is his devotion, his greatest weakness is his temper. Lang is naturally attracted to things of equal passion (physically and mentally), and he is easily swayed by strong advances and indulgences, to the point where sometimes, he needs someone to tell him to stop. He is also easily angered, being a no-nonsense kind of person, but after centuries of practice, has learned not to let that get the better of him. Adversely, he is easily appeased as well.
Lang enjoys combat, but not necessarily conflict. There is a difference – combat is a show of skill, of prowess, like a race. It is a chance for fey to show their mettle, and prove their worth. This, Lang adores, and prideful as he is (and because it’s an obligation in his position), he accepts any challenge posed to him. However, he is less concerned with conflict, wars fought over petty things, costing lives. When necessary, he will not surrender, but Lang fights wars only for things that are worth it to him. As far as he is concerned, his court is talented and powerful enough, to the point where there’s no need to prove it (some arrogance there, for sure). His people were led into the Fissure war by the previous ruler, and as his successor, Lang is intent to resolve it as far as his country is concerned.
(( History ))
Lang was born to humble beginnings, to a couple of simple, but not poor, standings. Both made a living on their weaving abilities, and so it was natural that Lang was sent to receive a magic education when he was of age. As a child, Lang was difficult to get along with – he picked fights, was generally uncontrollable, and hardly submitted to authority. It was by a stroke of wisdom and luck that his mentor, the elderly Dai Gwun, paired him up to work with another problem individual – the sullen and equally uncontrollable Vaet Quo. Like two volatile chemicals, somehow the partnership worked brilliantly, and under the instruction of Dai Gwun, they worked towards their full potential.
Near the end of his education, upon being told the news that Dai Gwun had fallen to the challenge of an older, pompous, and sly-handed student, Lang Na let his anger consume him. The manifestation of his emotions resulted in an enormous fire that almost consumed his own self, as well as the area around him. In the midst of that chaos, Vaet, without regard of his own life, ran towards him anyway. Right before reaching Lang, however, a particularly strong gust of flame whipped him away, and as Vaet turned away to shield his face from it, the flame lashed at his back, leaving a permanent burn scar. While his own imminent demise wasn’t enough to wake him up, Vaet’s injury was, and Lang’s anger dissipated, in place of fear for what he had done.
It was the first and last time Lang let his emotions control him to that degree.
Following their progression through adolescence and into adulthood, Lang and Vaet formed an unbreakable bond of brothers in arms. Their powers and fighting styles are honed to match each other as a result of their upbringing, though both can stand perfectly well on their own. During this time, the current ruler of the Fire Court had led their people into a battle that would eventually lead to the Fissure of Woe. The fight struck their people hard, reducing many to poverty and suffering.
Though it is a little-known fact, it is written in the laws of the Fire Court that any who wish to challenge the king may do so, and should the challenger turn up victorious, he is deigned the new king. The ruler has the responsibility, therefore, of not only keeping his people content, but also keeping his own skills sharp. The current ruler, preoccupied with greedy exploits for land and riches, was ill-prepared when Lang and Vaet challenged him. It was a relatively easy ascension to power. At the moment, with the rebuilding of the Fire Court behind him, Lang is working to resolve the issues the Fissure has imposed upon their court.
